Kristy received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Baylor University and her Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University. During her practicum she served on the founding committee for the Wellspring Support Ministry with First United Methodist Church in Plano, TX, under the supervision of Dr. Carolyn Maurer, PhD. Here she led groups on how to establish appropriate boundaries, grief recovery, divorce recovery, etc., as well as providing individual counseling.
Kristy is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern, working under the supervision of Clinical Director, Cheryl LaMastra, LPC-S. At the Clements Clinic she is involved in the intake process for the SPECT scan patients, spending time with them reviewing their symptoms and writing detailed, individualized reports. She also does individual counseling, dealing with a wide variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sexual assault or abuse, relationship issues, shame, self-image, codependency, and many other areas. While her counseling approach is eclectic and treatment is tailored to each individual, her theoretical orientation is grounded in cognitive behavioral techniques. She primarily works with adolescents and adults.
Her goal in therapy is to help her clients to gain insight on their particular situation, to learn effective coping mechanisms to deal with their distress, and to provide them with the tools necessary to maximize their full potential. Her hope is that her clients can take the information learned in therapy and utilize the techniques on their own, leading them to a happier, healthier lifestyle.
